In 2008 NCA, KACA hosted KACA research panel session, a special panel session for students, and KACA reception.

Five papers were presented in the KACA research panel session:

Translating the Foreign: How Contemporary South and North Korea Received, Transformed, and Accommodated Foreign Language, Culture, and Modernity

Dr. Jung-Soo Yi, Wright State University, chaired the session. Dr. Yi offered thoughtful and detailed comments for each paper as a respondent.

KACA organized a special panel for mainly graduate students, titled “The Arts of Teaching and Research in America.” Three scholars who represented different areas of communication research shared their experiences in teaching and research communication phenomena. Presenters were Dr. Eun-Ho Yeo, Plymouth State University, Dr. Hye-Jin Paek, Michigan State University, and Dr. Sook-Young Lee,(Luther College.

KACA reception was held at a Korean restaurant in Northern San Diego. More than 30 students and faculty members attended. In the reception, KACA members had a special time to remember late Dr. Seung H. Lee, who was one of the founding fathers of KACA and passed away at November 15, 2008. Dr. Kyu Ho Youm at University of Oregon and Dr. Dong-Hyun Byun of Sogang University shared their memories of late Dr. Lee.

Call for Papers: KACA session at NCA

The Korean American Communication Association invites submissions for the 2009 NCA convention to be held in Chicago. Submissions related to all areas of Korean and/or Korean-American communication are welcome. The KACA embraces all theoretical and methodological approaches to research. The submission of papers and pursuing the convention theme “Discourses of Stability and Change” is encouraged.

The KACA solicits for submissions of complete papers. All submissions will be reviewed blindly by three referees with expertise in the area. Paper selected will be presented at the KACA session during the 2009 NCA Convention in Chicago. All submissions must be made through the All Academic System online (http://convention3.allacademic.com/one/nca/nca09/). Papers must be uploaded to the site by February 11, 2009. Please observe NCA guidelines and submit only one paper to the KACA. Simultaneous submission to other NCA division is not allowed. The paper that receives the highest evaluation will be selected as the Best KACA Paper, and will receive a small cash prize.

Additional details about submissions in each format are provided below.

• Maximum length is 25 pages exclusive of references, tables, and figures.
• All papers must be submitted online in either Microsoft Word or PDF file format.
• To ensure blind review, please remove author names before submitting your paper, and make sure
that no information that can identify authors is included in the submission.
• All paper must include a title and an abstract with approximately 250 words.
