The Ketchum Excellence in Public Relations Research Award goes this year to Minjeong Kang, a Ph.D. student at Syracuse University. She will receive a $2,500 grant to support her work on measuring social media credibility. A six-stage research project will seek to validate methods for measuring social media and examine its impact on public engagement and branding. [Read more]

I’ve just learned that Dr. Dal Yong Jin at Simon Fraser Univesity is the recipient of the SSHRC Standard Research Grant from the Canadian government ($78,290). The highest grant in Canada will be for his research on the Intellectual history of the political economy of communication in North America.
Dr. Jin has authored HANDS ON/HANDS OFF: THE KOREAN STATE AND THE MARKET LIBERALIZATION OF THE COMMUNICATION INDUSTRY.

Dr. Seungahn Nah’s (asst. prof. of Dept. of Community and Leadership Development, University of Kentucky Lexington) citizen media project The Lexington Commons, the first citizen media site of the Kentucky Citizen Media Project, has been selected by New Voices (http://www.j-newvoices.org/) project as one of 10 winners out of 312 entries.
Press Release: The university’s Department of Community and Leadership Development is spearheading the project in partnership with the University’s Cooperative Extension Service, which will help recruit citizen reporters, and the Department of Agricultural Communications, which will launch and maintain the project’s Web site.
