I hope you don't mind if I add a footnote to the KACA blog on the NCA dinner:

Prof. Hee Sun Park at Michigan State contributed substantially to the NCA dinner. Her generosity far exceeded the supposed contribution from each faculty member to the dinner.

Many thanks to Prof. Park.

Thanks to Dr. Hye-ryon Lee and others for pulling off such a first-class conference on Aug. 5.

As Charles Self, the AEJMC president, noted, he was tremendously impressed with the conference's program and speakers.

I consider the conference a timely occasion to showcase the maturing Korean-American scholarship in communication.

And few would quibble about Dr. Jae Chol Shim's experiential observation in the Maeil Economic Daily that Korean-American communication scholars are quickly emerging as the leaders of their field.

On Aug. 18, a grad student at Stanford wrote to me after reading Dr. Shim's op-ed piece: "This is an encouraging piece! I am always in awe of over-achieving Korean scholars surrounding me and am happy to have them as mentors and colleagues. They always give me the strength to strive for better and the best."

Again, kudos to Dr. Lee et al. for their fine work in organizing the successful KACA conference.

DR. SHIM--
Your op-ed piece in the Maeil Economic Daily is informative and readable. I'm very impressed with your concise writing and clear thinking.

I thoroughly enjoyed your piece. Not necessarily because it places KACA in a positive light but because it puts the Korean-American jmc scholars in context.

I'm always gratified that you cherish your KACA connection. Rest assured that your valuable KACA service in the early 1990s was not a futile exercise. KACA is no longer what it was in the 1990s. Dr. Hye-ryeon Lee's dynamic leadership and profound devotion to KACA have been refreshing to me.

Meanwhile, I doubt that I was worth mentioning in your column. I'm no longer in the same league with the young Korean-American scholars you justifiably note. They each are rising and/or shining stars in the jmc scholarship, but I am not.

Enjoy your trip to Saigon.

The NEWSLETTER is really informative. I thoroughly enjoyed the articles and the pictures (except one that is shamelessly plugging a book). Many thanks to Dr. Huh and other KACA officers for this special anniversary issue of the KACA NEWSLETTER. See you in Chicago in three weeks!
