KACA Membership Renewal
Written by KACA on October 30, 2008 – 9:59 am -Aloha. These are pretty tough times globally with recent economic problems. I hope that all is well with you and your family.
I am writing this letter to ask that you renew your membership for the KACA. However, first I want to thank all of you for your support for the KACA over the past year. I am truly grateful for the generous contributions, both times and energy, to the various KACA activities throughout the last year. Without your help we would not have been able to accomplish so much this year.
I am very happy to report we had a very productive year. The KACA now boasts aesthetically and functionally executed website and blog that disseminate necessary and timely information for our members. Annually updated KACA Directory and faculty interest database are some of the excellent services available on the website. We have successfully organized various KACA events at the ICA, the AEJMC, and the NCA conventions. In addition to the KACA panel sessions, we held business meetings, receptions and student and faculty encounter sessions at these conferences.
Most noteworthy event this year, I have to say, was the 30th Anniversary of KACA at Chicago in August this year. With the theme, the Hybridization of Reality: Reimagining the communication environments in Korea, we held a full day conference with cutting edge papers presentations and panels. We also held a Gala reception and honored those who made significant contributions to the KACA, distinguished young scholars and outstanding students. We are also working on publishing a special issue of Asian Journal of Communication to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the KACA. Professor Jisu Huh, our editor, produced a beautiful anniversary special newsletter as well (http://www.kacanet.org/news/newsv30_1.pdf
While many of the accomplishments of the KACA are achieved through labor of love of many people who care about the KACA and funds raised from outside sources, your membership dues constitute the foundation of the KACA. Your dues are used to fund the following activities:
1. Organizational affiliation fees to ICA & AEJMC
2. Web hosting fees for the KACA website and for domain name registration
3. Updating the KACA member directory
4. Outreach activities such as student encounter sessions at conferences
5. KACA newsletter printing and distribution costs
6. Various KACA events and receptions at conferences
We try to “do more with less,” and work hard to ensure that your dues are spent on worthwhile activities that meet the mission of the KACA. Detailed treasury report will be included in the forthcoming KACA Newsletter.
Our annual membership due is $20 for faculty and $10 for students. Additional donations are always welcome. To pay with a check, simply fill out the attached membership application form and mail it with your check (payable to Korean American Communication Association) to the treasurer at the following address:

I am also enclosing the newly updated KACA membership directory for your record. The directory and other useful materials such as sample syllabi, job search guide, and faculty interest database are available at our website at www.KACAnet.org
As I am wrapping up the second term as the President of the KACA, I am so pleased to see that there are many talented and service-minded members who are ready to step in as next leaders of the KACA. I am confident the KACA will grow in leaps and bounds to better serve Korean communication scholars in America.
